Inniskeen 5-04 Truagh 1-03

Inniskeen comfortably claimed the league title on Sunday, October 3rd when they easily defeated Truagh in the decider at McKeown Park, Drumhowan. The Grattan’s quickly went about stamping their mark on the game and had the game firmly in control by the break as they led by two goals. They continued their dominance in the second period to run out easy winners.

Truagh’s Siobhan McKenna opened the scoring but this was to be the only time the North Monaghan club were to lead. Geraldine Fitzpatrick hit the games opening goal for the eventual winners as early as the third minute before Yvonne Connell replied for Truagh with a point on ten minutes. It was in the final seven minutes of the half that Inniskeen gained the upper hand when they hit 1-2 without reply, the goal coming from Sharon McGahon to leave it at the interval Inniskeen 2-02, Truagh, 0-02. Within five minutes of the resumption Liz McConnon struck for the games third major before following with a fine point to stretch the Grattan’s advanatage. Geraldine Fitzpatrick fired her second goal of the game five minutes later and as the clock ticked into the final nine minutes Liz McConnon struck for her second major. Truagh to their credit got a reward for their battling qualities with a late goal from Catherine Sherry, but they can have no complaints on the day as Inniskeen were much the better side.

Geraldine Clarke, Chairperson of the County Board presented the Inniskeen Captain Sharon McGahon with the County League Cup and “Player of the Match” award was presented to Edel Kieran.
