Ulster Intermediate Club Final 2014:
Our wonderful Ulster journey came to an end in the Athletic grounds last Sunday against Warren point GAA club.
The Final took off with a frantic pace with the Down outfit tagging on 3 early points before we could manage to get a grip on the occasion.
However as demonstrated on many occasions throughout the year our lads kept their cool and responded emphatically with a Goal and a point from none other than Paul Meegan, who once again has proved he is the big game player we all know he is. The goal was the direct link between Big Gerry in the square and forwards running off his shoulder. This tactic has proved very fruitful this year.
The next five minutes seen us dealt a severe blow as we lost Michael Fitzpatrick and Joe Butler due to a black card and head injury respectively.  And to compound the above we conceded 3 points though this difficult period.
We managed to get the game into half time with the scores level at 1-05 to 0-08 thanks to points from Gerry McArdle, Ronan and Paul Meegan. Unlike the start of the first half, we came out of the traps flying and took the lead thanks to a super long range effort from Paul, followed up with another great score from Ronan who was making a huge impact from when he came on for Michael Fitzpatrick.
Both teams traded points with Ronan again on the mark to keep our noses in front on the half way point in the second period.
However we missed a few score able chances and were punished as Warren point went down the field on the break and scored a fortuitous Goal after their initial shot came down high off the post into the hands of their sharp shooter Ross Mc Garry who dispatched passed Pauric.
The Goal turned the game on its head and from then on Warren point pulled away and finished worthy winners with a 7 point margin with a score line of 1-07 to 1-14.
The guys were visibly gutted at the end having come so far and lost, however they can hold their heads high as they have brought us on a amazing journey this year and have carried themselves with pride.
Thanks to this group of young Grattan’s we can now look forward to playing the likes of Clontibret, Blayney and Scotstown in the league we all wanted to be in at the beginning of the year; senior.
On behalf of the committee we would like to thank the extended playing panel, Robbie, Owen and Alan for the unbelievable effort they have put in all year. Rest up over the winter as you all deserve it.
We would also like to thank our fantastic supporters who followed us everywhere all year; we hope we have provided great entertainment along the way.
